Grace Pruden (Mrs. Jesse Neal), both a painter and sculptor, was born in St. Paul MN. She studied at the St. Paul Art School, the Art Students League in NYC and abroad at the Grand Chaumiere, Paris. She exhibited her work widely and frequently throughout the Midwest and Northeast, winning many prizes for her paintings and commissions for her sculpture (e.g., bust of Gov. Eberhard in Minneapolis Statehouse and a bronze grouping in London). She retired to Dunedin, Florida where this piece was painted, probably ca. 1950.
