Bogen Beverly Bogen (Jericho, New York) studied with Benton M. Spruance (Germantown, PA) and Harry Sternberg (New York City). She was active primarily in the mid 20th century and did delicate portraits as typified by this small (10 x 8 in.) oil on canvas. Portrait of a young girl: $125. (#C273)
Cascella Michele Cascella (Italy; 1892-1989) was highly productive throughout his long life. A follower of no school, he painted "as the mood strikes me, without reasoning, relying on instinctive impulses." Only in his last years did he begin receiving widespread recognition. Picabia Francis Picabia (1878-1953; Spanish/French), primarily known for his modernist paintings, initially spent over ten years painting in an impressionistic style influenced by Pissarro and Sisley before dramatically entering the modernist fold in 1909. The works dating from this early period, attractive and done in a style that had gained general acceptance, disappeared into private hands. Many, such as this dockside scene done in 1906 with a pronounced impasto, have steadily emerged and become rediscovered in the current art market. Oil on canvas (11 x 14 in.). Rollins Clayton M. Rollins (b. 1924; American) was initially trained at the Whitney and Vesper Schools of Art and the Pratt Institute, although he spent his career in the U.S. Army. Since retirement in 1969, he began displaying his work publicly in numerous juried shows, and is represented by galleries from the Berkshires to the Rio Grande Valley. This oil on canvas (12 x 16 in.), painted primarily with a palette knife, depicts the action at Ruidoso Downs, New Mexico: $200. (#C104)

Torán Alphonse T. Torán (New York City; né Alphonso Toran) was born in Naples, Italy in 1898. After study in Italy, he moved to the U.S.A. and specialized in decorative murals for numerous hotels and businesses. He was the Director of both The Creative Studios of Art & Decoration (from 1935) and the Toran Creative Studios (1940-1960) in New York City.
