Hiroshige HIROSHIGE Utagawa (1797-1858). Iga province: Ueno from the series "Rokujuyoshu meisho zue" (Famous places of the sixty-odd provinces), oban tate-e (13½" x 9"). Signed "Hiroshige hitsu", dated "Ushi 7" (1853), and published by Koshimuraya Heisuke. Condition: good; all but top margin trimmed to ca. ¼" of image; slight toning throughout; small tape residue in upper corners verso; no wrinkles, tears or folds; pronounced bleedthrough verso. $950. Kunisada (Toyokuni III) KUNISADA II Utagawa (TOYOKUNI IV) (1823-1880). Scene from Hanachirusato, Chapter 11 from Genji gojuyojo hattan (54 Chapters of the Tale of Genji); oban tate-e (14" x 10"; includes border). Hanachirusato Genji-mon in border decoration; signature (Kochoro Kunisada hitsu) LR; combined aratame and date (Mi X [10/1857]) seal in LR border; Hiroshige II (1829-1869) signature in fan; gauffage (embossing) of background and in light areas of left and right robes. Condition: good to very good; attached to cardboard at corners but not laid down (torn loose from LL corner); somewhat ragged edge to borders; slightly toned overall; colors strong. $275. (#99AL)
Kunisada II KUNISADA II Utagawa (TOYOKUNI IV) (1823-1880). Scene from Kashiwagi, Chapter 36 from Genji gojuyojo hattan (54 Chapters of the Tale of Genji); oban tate-e (14½" x 10"; includes border). Signed "Kunisada ga" in Toshidama cartouche with aratame (approved) seal, date seal (mi 10 [10/1857]), and publisher's seal (Tsutaya Kichizo). Condition: good to very good; light color. $275. (#99CA)
Kuniyoshi KUNIYOSHI Utagawa (1798-1861). Actor. Framed and matted; oban tate-e (14" x 9¾"). Signed "Ichiyusai Kuniyoshi ga" with kiri seal. Double censor period (1847-1852). Condition: good to very good; somewhat faded color; not examined out of frame. $475. (#99AUb)
Toyokuni I TOYOKUNI Utagawa (TOYOKUNI I) (1769-1825). Preparing for the Bath; oban tate-e (14" x 9"). Signed "Toyokuni ga"; Taisho-era restrike. Condition: good to very good; slight toning; two small pinholes. $135. (#99AH)
Utamaro UTAMARO Kitagawa (1753-1806). Woman looking in a mirror from "Fujin sogaku juttai (The Physiognomy of ten types of women)"; oban tate-e (14¾" x 10"). Signed "somi Utamaro koga" ("drawn with thought by the physiognomist Utamaro"); early kiwame (approval) seal; published by Tsutaya Juzaburo ca. 1793/94. Border present, but attached to back of folio at lower right corner, some wear to mica background. This is an original of the first version, first state of this well-known print. Condition: Good; 1" fold left center; very small parts of upper border corners missing; some wear to mica overlay; no other tears or damage to image. SOLD. (#Z235)
Yoshikazu YOSHIKAZU Ichikawa (fl. 1850-1870). Mother and child; oban tata-e (14" x 9¾"). Signed "Yoshikazu"; published ca. 1850s by Kagaya Kichibei (Kichiemon). Condition: fair; toned throughout; several small holes across top and large hole near signature (shown); left & right borders trimmed; slight wrinkling thoughout. $150. (#LS09)
Yoshitora YOSHITORA Ichimosai (Utagawa) (fl. 1850-1880). Minamoto Yoshitsune; oban tata-e (14½" x 10"). Signed "Ichimosai Yoshikazu"; published in 1851 (double censor period) by Iwakami Soya. Condition: good to very good: minimal margins (as printed); minor scuffing at edges; colors are still very fresh; no holes, tears, or foxing. SOLD. (#99CF)
Yoshitsuya YOSHITSUYA Koko (1822-1866). Plate #28 from "Hisago-gundan Gojuyo-jo (Fifty-four battle scenes shortly before Edo era)"; oban tata-e (14" x 9"). Signed "Yoshitsuya"; published ca. 1864. Condition: very good to excellent: minimal margins (as printed); colors are still very fresh and bright; no holes, tears, or foxing. $450. (#A0DH)
Yoshiume YOSHIUME Nakajima (1819-1879). Traveler; chuban tata-e (10" x 7"; printed on heavy washi). Signed "Yoshiume ga". Condition: good: margins trimmed; foxing of image not apparent, but attached across the top to sheet with foxing. $250. (#A0BXd)
Yoshiyuki YOSHIYUKI Nansui (1835-1879). Left side of Ghost in Snow diptych; chuban tata-e (9" x 7"); printed ca. 1850s. Signed "Yoshiyuki". Condition: good to very good: colors excellent; margins trimmed (except top); very slight toning; no foxing or tears; attached by UL corner to presentation folder. SOLD. (#LS40)
