Antal Berkes studied at the Academy of Fine Arts between 1889-1894. First painting mainly landscapes, he later changed to making street scenes of Budapest and subsequently "mass produced" many of his works, meeting the requirements of the art-dealers of his age. His work went through bright and dark periods; the "Budapest street scene" depicted below is from his bright-toned period. (Source: "Databank of Hungarian Painters and Graphic Artists" - Szeged,1988) This painting was obtained from a Hungarian/Czech immigrant, and the back has Bratslava Gallery stamps and an export stamp.
